The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was founded on a promise between two sisters – Susan Goodman Komen and Nancy Goodman Brinier. Suzy was diagnosed with breast cancer n 1978, a time when little was known about the disease. Before she died, at age 36, Suzy asked her sister to do all she could to bring an end to breast cancer. Nancy kept her promise by establishing the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1982.

In 2002, RE/MAX joined the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in the fight against breast cancer. The partnership recognizes and supports the millions of survivors, friends and families who join together to celebrate victories, advancements – and individual courage of every form – in the fight against the disease.

The Foundation is best known for its “Race for the Cure” events, the world’s largest series of 5K runs and fitness walks. Komen estimates that in the past year, more than 1.5 million people participated in its races.

With its “RE/MAX Racing for Life®” slogan, RE/MAX is proud to be a co-sponsor with Zeta Tao Alpha, a fraternal sorority, of the National Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program for the Komen Race for the Cure events.

RE/MAX’s partnership with the Foundation focuses on race-day activities associated with survivorship. We contribute “I’m a Survivor” pink tee-shirts, caps, “In Honor of” and “In Memory of” back-signs and also program banners for each race. Local RE/MAX associates who are breast cancer survivors or who have been otherwise affected by the disease are encouraged to solicit pledges for their own participation in the race-day events.

Whenever a “Race for the Cure” event is held in Connecticut, agents from RE/MAX Right Choice are enthusiastic participants. Each race presents the opportunity for runners and non-runners alike to make pledges in support of the Foundation.

Together, RE/MAX, its sales agents – more than half of whom are women – and ZTA champion the race to find a cure for breast cancer, while supporting those who have encountered the disease.
